Our wedding

Albert and I always knew that one day we would marry, but for a long time that seemed like an impossible dream. But, the minute we were free of all the hassles we had, Albert asked me to marry him — and he didn't want to wait very long either.

At the end of July 2006 we had our first appointment at the registry office in Hannover and suddenly it was not just a dream anymore. Due to the fact that I am British the paperwork and "red tape" at the registry office took longer than usual leaving us uncertain for several weeks whether our wish to marry in September would actually be realised. In fact, we found out just four weeks before the wedding date, leaving us little time for organisation.

Albert and I wanted a quiet, elegant wedding so the organisation wasn't really very difficult. The only thing I was not able to organise was the weather. Finding a suitable dress also proved to be a most difficult task unless I wanted to marry in black or dark green. I can thank my lovely friend Bettina for giving me a good tip and I found exactly the sort of dress I was looking for. The colour scheme was cream so I ordered my bouquet and the cake to match.

The 22nd September finally arrived and the sun shone down on us!

The wedding ceremony at the registary office in Hannover was attended by our close family and our witnesses: our very good friends Rick and Susann.

A short visit to the "Rathaus", where we took the lift up the tower to see the view across Hannover and a leisurely walk through the park to the Courtyard Hotel at Maschsee followed. It must have been one of the hottest September days ever and we enjoyed a glass of bubbly outside overlooking the Maschsee lake. We had a delicious four-course luncheon in a dining-room to ourselves in the Courtyard Hotel, which they had decorated beautifully with cream-coloured roses matching my bouquet.

Taxis back home meant that we had an hour to relax before our guests for the evening arrived. We had arranged for the evening buffet to be delivered by our favourite Italian restaurant "La Fortuna" and as always Angelo didn't let us down - it was delicious.

The champagne flowed and the temperature allowed us to sit outside on the terrace all evening. It was simply the most perfect day.

Late in the evening, when we were alone, Albert and I sat at our bar reminiscing about our wedding day: we agreed that we couldn't possibly have wished for anything better and what a wonderful start to the rest of our lives together.
