For my fifteenth birthday – which was a VERY long time ago - my brother Andy gave me the LP record of „Bat out of Hell“ from Meatloaf and ever since then I have wanted to see Meatloaf live on stage.
In November 2003 Meatloaf held a concert in Hamburg and Albert and I said we would definately go to that. We talked about arranging the tickets the whole year through but never actually got around to it. Nearer the time I thought it was too late so stopped asking about the concert. Albert and I were both very busy organising our Halloween party for the 1st November. During one lunchtime in early October we were discussing the guest list for the party and Albert mentioned that a few of the guest wouldn't be coming as they were out that evening. I told him that they would probably be at the Meatloaf concert whereby Albert just looked at me, somewhat shocked, and said, "It’s not on the same evening is it?"
You've guessed it – as a surprise for me Albert had secretly bought us two tickets for the concert but hadn't taken note of the date!!!
There was no way that we could arrange another date for our party so with very heavy hearts we re-sold the tickets through Ebay.
This year the surprise worked. Meatloaf was appearing at the Expo Party 2005, which I hadn't realised, and Albert bought the tickets well in advance – but this time told me about it to avoid another mishap.
It was fantastic. Our friends Dirk and Silke were with us too so lots of laughs and a great atmosphere. Silke had brought two umbrellas along but as it was beautiful blue skies and sunshine when we got to the Expo Plaza we made no end of jokes about them. As it happened, shortly before Meatloaf came on stage, it did rain quite heavily so Silke saved us from a soaking with her thoughtfulness
But, as luck would have it, it stopped raining just as Meatloaf appeared and we enjoyed about one and a half hours of great music. It was totally crowded, our backs hurt and our legs ached but after 26 years of waiting it was certainly worth it.
This time we didn't take a camera with us as we thought it would only be confiscated again, but Dirk and Albert
had fun playing with the cameras in their mobile phones.
Unfortunately, as you can see the quality is not exactly high. The photos of Meatloaf himself, although taken on
the evening, are not ours - I did a little searching on the internet!
Never mind the photos - it was a wonderful evening and the memory will stay with us always.
THANKYOU Albert for making yet another dream of mine come true and giving us another memory to add to our collection
Why we had reason to celebrate.
It was a long wait, but dreams do come true eventually
The time has arrived for me to enjoy my birthday present
What Wolf and Robin did for Albert on this special day.
Oh what fun it is to drive in a two-seater open-top sports.
The wonderful feeling of warmth and colour is just around the corner
My new computer area: I could sit here for hours, and very often do.
